Happy Friday 8-5!

This week in Math we:

  • continued building our math duotangs
  • caught up with our ratios and rates definitions in our math notebooks
  • worked with a partner to complete pages 59-60 #1-3 as a TEAM.

Greetings 8-5!
Hope your school year is off to a great start.
Just a quick update of our progress so far this year.
A reminder that weekly updates will begin on Friday.
Textbooks stay in the classroom.  You will have access to the them online through Brightspace if you need.

So far in MATH we have:

  • Reviewed the Cartesian plane and coordinate geometry.  What character did you do?
  • Started our Math Minute duotangs.  As you walk in the door you pick up a Math Minute, do it and put it in your duotang.  Don't feel like doing it that day?  No problem, put it in your duotang and do it another day.  No calculators, just a little practice for your brain.  We are up to Math Minute #10.
  • Talked about our first topic:  Ratios, Rates, and Proportional Reasoning
  • Started our Math Notebook.  We found the key words for our topic on page 43 of our MathLinks 8 textbook.  We then found their definitions and recorded them in our notebook.
  • We learned 3 ways to write ratios.
  • We can represent ratios part to part or part to whole.
  • We can write 2 and 3 term ratios.
  • We can write the ratio in LOWEST terms.
  • Completed the Get Ready handout.
  • Completed 2.1 Two-Term and Three-Term Ratios
  • Illustrated an example of ratios from our world that did NOT include a boy/girl count.
  • Completed and handed in Level 1, 2 OR 3 in our MathLinks 8 Textbook:
    • Level 1:  Page 51 #5, 7, 10, 12
    • Level 2:  Pages 51-52 #5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12
    • Level 3:  Pages 51-52 #5-15

So far in SCIENCE we have:

  • Explored WHMIS 2015.  Compared it to old WHMIS.  What are the differences?
  • Made and handed in a WHMIS poster.  Chose one symbol, made a slogan and created an informative poster.  What does WHMIS stand for?
  • Talked about Lab Safety.  Looked a Zombie Lab Safety Video.
  • When you think about Lab Safety what are the 3 most important things?
  • What is PPE? Where is the eyewash station?  Where is the fire extinguisher?  The fire exit?
  • We reviewed page 11 of our Science in Action 8 text books.  There is a list of important Lab Safety rules to follow.
  • Started our Lab Safety Poster.
